HTC Desire A17
Smartphone giant Xiaomi stepped in India with its range of affordable phones with the Mi3. it was such a hit, that they could not cope up with the demand and discontinued the product. Even if the sales were on online platforms, it seeked a lot of attention. Maybe this was the company’s tactic to create a demand by depriving people of the products. Whatever be the reason, it worked.
After almost half a year, it launched Mi4 in India. It was one of the first devices in the country to be affordable and efficient. Bearing similarities with its predecessor Mi3, it was an easy success.
The Xiaomi Mi4 comes with a body that bears a striking resemblance to Apple devices. This isn’t a surprise anymore with everyone trying out this trick. Anyways, it has a metal frame and rounded edges giving it premium feel. On the other hand, the plastic back cover leaves us disappointed. It flaunts a 5-inch display and makes one had use feel breezy.
Talking in depth about the display, it offers a high definition output at 1920x1080p. The colour reproduction is not very good but can be called ‘satisfactory’. It bears Corning One glass solution to defend itself against scratches. On the bright side, the display is very bright! Even under the sun, you can clearly view stuff on the screen. The response is fast enough as well.
The Xiaomi Mi runs on the company’s own software MIUI 6 which is similar to Android Kitkat. Surprisingly, it is better than that actually. You will experience better multitasking and a smoother interface. You can customize it according to your own aesthetic be it fonts or wallpapers.
It comes with features like call block, app management, and floating notifications. There are many pre-installed apps but you can uninstall the ones you don’t need.
Unlike standard Android phones, this one lets you put your private messages in a secret folder and pin down the important ones on the top. It has a preloaded virus scanner to protect the device. You can choose which apps run in the background and use data. One of the interesting services by the company is the Micloud. You get 10GB of free storage to backup your data.
For photography, there is a 13MP unit on the rear and a 8MP unit on the front. It comes with a features like live filters, panorama, HDR, and 4K video recording. Mi has one of the best cameras in the budget market, there is no doubt about that. If you are a pro, you can set the ISO, focus, exposure, and white balance yourself. These shooters provide excellent sharpness and contrast. Low light pictures turn out to be decent too.
Under the hood, the phone packs 3GB of RAM along with a Snapdragon 801 processor. The device works smoothly and there have been no complaints so far. One major flaw with the Xiaomi Mi 4 is the storage. It does have 16GB of internal memory but it can not be expanded any further. This is a deal breaker for many. If you are comfortable backing up your phone frequently, then it won’t be a hitch.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 packs a 3080 mAh battery that lasts for a full day on a single charge.
After looking at the specifications, it is safe to say this is a good device for budget buyers. Under 10000 bucks it offers quite a lot. Storage is the only flaw here. Apart from that, the performance and cameras are top notch. The Xiaomi Mi 4 is priced at INR 9990.
