Smartron is an Indian IoT company based out of Hyderabad. Despite being a young startup in the country, they have attracted a huge audience, it’s because Sachin Tendulkar is associated as the brand ambassador. This is the company’s second smartphone aptly named as Srt phone, initials of Master Blaster’s full name. After tphone, this is Sachin’s second innings with Smartron. The device brings numerous luxury features to the mid-range, which is why the price starts at Rs 12,999.
Android Nougat, Octa-core processor, USB Type-C, Quick Charging, Unlimited tCloud storage.
3000 mAh battery, Plastic body, 5MP selfie camera.
Smartron Srt phone packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor. It is an Octa-core chipset with dual-channel RAM support. It has advanced graphics processing unit, Adreno 510. It clocks at 1.8GHz and is accompanied by a 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The company claims its 30% faster than the previous generation Snapdragon 625 chipset.
In terms of optics, the new Smartron phone comes equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera. There are various technologies at play here like Autofocus, PDAF, and BSI sensor, which helps capture the best shot with f/2.0 aperture lens. While talking about the selfie camera, it is a 5-megapixel. It could be said that it's not up to the current standards of selfie cameras out there.
The new Smartron phone sports a 3000 mAh capacity battery, which is relatively smaller when compared to current generation of phablets. But thanks to Quick Charging you don’t have to wait long to get back online.
Design and Display:
Whenever you first look at the phone, what do you notice about it? Design. So, even if spec sheet is impressive considering the price point, Would you consider a phone with a bad design? You won’t and you shouldn’t. Because design is what we use and feel. The bulky edges and bezels don't give it a great look that one would want on their smartphone. The body is made out of plastic material with a metal finish and is quite bulky at 8.9mm. The 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display boasts brilliant visuals as quoted by the company. It is said to offer excellent indoor and outdoor viewing. The pixel density comes out at 401 PPI, which is quite good.
The device comes in two storage variants 32GB and 64GB, while RAM is constant on both variants. Do make a note that there isn’t any microSD card slot on this handset. But don’t worry, you get a tcloud unlimited cloud storage to fulfill all your storage needs.
For the Rs 12,999 starting price, the Smartron Srt phone offers a good set of specs for powerful performance and unmatched battery life. But looking at the design of the phone, you would have to be cautious of few things such as accessibility of buttons. The power button and volume rocker placement aren't ideal for consumers with small hands. It might be uncomfortable for them to reach those buttons. If you’re a Sachin fan, you may oversee these things, but if you’re not a hardcore fan, we suggest competition like Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Honor 6X.
