After One Plus 5, what is next for OnePlus in 2018?
OnePlus as a company has grown into something we would like to call: smartest smartphone company. The best example is One Plus 5 and how it is helping the brand achieve greater heights. In this story, we explore about the latest flagship killer phone from the Chinese brand that is loved by users around the world (even the deepest corners of it).
Before we get down to an exploration about multiple OnePlus things, let’s just briefly recap OP5 specs sheet.
What are the One Plus 5 specifications?
> A 5.5-inch full HD resolution is something that has become standard on smartphones. But not an AMOLED screen! OnePlus has its own version of AMOLED, which offers some manual functions, it’s called Optic AMOLED. The latest version of corning gorilla glass gives support to the screen from scratches and protects it from getting broke.
> Fastest chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 powers the One Plus 5. That statement itself is enough to attract users, but OnePlus has gone completely overboard with an introduction of an 8 GB RAM. The 128 GB storage variant comes with a humongous amount of RAM.
> Never Settle! They really live up to this slogan. OnePlus has introduced something its fans have been waiting for: a dual rear camera. A vertical dual sensor on rear reminisces of iPhone Plus models. Primary sensor is 16 MP (f/1.7), whereas the secondary sensor is 20 MP (f/2.6). The secondary telephoto lens helps capture beautiful portrait photos, all thanks to its longer focal length.
> Despite the decrease in battery capacity, One Plus 5 offers a better battery life than its predecessor or any other flagship handset in the market as a matter of fact. All thanks to features like Dash Charge (OnePlus’s proprietary fast charging), optimized Android Nougat 7.1.1 based interface, and highly efficient Qualcomm chipset. Clubbed together these features and you get a flagship device with almost no battery worries.

How does One Plus 5 fares out in the market in terms of cost?
> When OnePlus introduced their first handset, OnePlus One didn’t have such competition, which it has now. Started at Rs 21,999, OnePlus has slowly but gradually increased pricing of its flagship model, year-on-year.
> Increase in price is inevitable when you take the cost of developing and integrating new technologies. Of course, OnePlus might have increased their profit per device since their original flagship killer in 2014.
But the point is that they have made it comparatively cheaper than its competition when you take overall One Plus 5 specifications in consideration.
What are the closest competitions to One Plus 5 in India?
For your reference: One Plus Price in India starts at Rs 32,999 for 6GB model and Rs 37,999 for 8GB RAM model.
> OnePlus 5 Vs Asus Zenfone AR
Where does it win?: A Super AMOLED display with 1440p resolution is definitely better than an AMOLED display with 1080p resolution.
Where does it level?: Availability of 8 GB RAM, similar to OnePlus 5.
Where does it loose?: Performance might not be up to a mark when compared with Snapdragon 835 on OnePlus versus Snapdragon 821 on Asus.
> OnePlus 6 Vs Honor 8 Pro
Where does it win?: Whether it’s a Super AMOLED or not, 2K resolution is something that might be always better than a full HD resolution display, regardless of the display type.
Where does it level?: Dual Rear camera package. They both come equipped with a dual lens on the rear but have different implementations. It’s arguable, which one’s better.
Where does it loose?: Front facing camera is at 8 MP against 16 MP on OnePlus. Qualcomm chipset is probably better than Honor’s in-house Kirin processor.
> OnePlus Vs Nokia 8
Where does it win?: 2K resolution, 554 ppi Vs 401 ppi, both LCD. The verdict is easy!
Where does it level?: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor and Dual Rear camera.
Where does it loose?: No 8 GB RAM model and low battery capacity compared to OnePlus 5.
> OnePlus 5 Vs Xiaomi Mi Mix 2
Where does it win?: 5.99-inch Bezel-less display is a thing of beauty, despite its full HD resolution, it wins for a display.
Where does it level?: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 8 GB RAM, and dual rear camera.
Where does it loose?: Probably in durability as bezel-less phones are more prone to damage when they fall even from a small height.
> OnePlus 5 Vs LG V30
Where does it win?: 6.0-inches OLED display with 1440p resolution. HDR10 and Dolby Vision complaint display.
Where does it level?: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor and dual rear camera.
Where does it loose?: No 8GB RAM, in fact, no 6GB RAM model too. LG V30 is out of this world.
> OnePlus 5 Vs Sony Xperia XZ1
Where does it win?: Smaller 5.2-inch display with full HD resolution, which HDR10 complaint. Android 8.0 Oreo-based interface is a good add-on.
Where does it level?: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor is the only thing that is common between these two flagship devices.
Where does it loose?: Battery capacity is at 2700 mAh and there is not the dual rear camera. But since it’s Sony we are talking about, even a single lens sensor would be powerful.
> OnePlus 5 Vs HTC U11
Where does it win?: Super LCD5 display of 5.5-inches sporting 1440p resolution is better than a 5.5-inch AMOLED display when you take a resolution in consideration.
Where does it level?: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor is the only common ground here between these two phones.
Where does it loose?: No 8GB RAM, No Dual rear camera, and a small 3000 mAh capacity battery. Didn’t expect this fro HTC!
What has OnePlus 5 done differently than OnePlus 3/3T?
> First things first, a massive improvement of the device performance. All thanks to the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835, which is known for its balance between performance and power intake. A significant chunk of device performance credit goes to the processor, Qualcomm is the best in industry.
> Then, comes the Dual rear camera setup jump! OnePlus 3T had one of the best camera specification of its time, but OnePlus had to step up their game, since, they had to catch up Apple in this department. Offering high-resolution sensors, 16 MP primary and 20 MP secondary, optics game of OnePlus have double folded.
