It was launched on September 25th, 2014 with an aim to become an electronics manufacturing hub by 2020. Under this campaign, if a company (Indian or Foreign) manufacturers Made in India mobile phones, then, they would be eligible for tax exemptions.
Talking about mobile manufacturing plants in the country, Over these two years, the Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Gionee, and Lenovo has set up their manufacturing units in the country. While big names like Samsung and Motorola also jumped on the bandwagon. Due to the Make in India campaign, the nation saw Rs 54,000 crore worth mobile phones manufactured locally in FY 2015-16.
